The decision that changed her course
For five years, Lucía Marín’s working life revolved around sales. Over time, she realized what was missing: she wanted to create, not sell. She wanted to help build the things other people would use.
That wish led her to design.
Ahead of her lay training, her first sketches and the challenge of being a beginner again. Lucía studied Design and Creative Technologies in Valencia, took on small commissions and gradually built her portfolio. She started with landing pages and, step by step, moved on to more complex digital products.
Her sales experience found a new purpose too: listening, asking questions and understanding people’s needs were skills that had a lot to offer design.
Ten conversations that changed how she designs
One of the turning points came while she was working at a booking startup.
The team had spent months debating button colors, while 30% of users were dropping out at the payment step. Lucía asked for a week to talk to ten real customers.
Those conversations showed where people were getting stuck. Ever since, her work has started with researching the problem before designing a solution.
“A beautiful interface that nobody understands is an expensive problem. I’d rather show an ugly prototype to five people on Tuesday than a gorgeous Figma file to the client on Friday.”
An ad, an application and a new opportunity
Lucía discovered TIMETORIOT through an ad.
By then, she was already working as a designer. What caught her eye was a platform focused on creative professions, where the portfolio takes center stage.
She applied, and a week later she landed her first job through TIMETORIOT: a project for a small startup.
For her, it was the tangible result of taking a step and responding to an opportunity. For the platform, it was a story of how a designer and a team found a way to work together.
A profession — and a way of working — of her own
Today, Lucía has five years of design experience, more than 40 websites and apps delivered, 90 user interviews and four design systems built from scratch.
She works remotely from Valencia. She researches user needs, structures products, designs interfaces and works with development teams to take them into production.
She also teaches UX fundamentals to people coming from other professions. She knows that path well: having years of work experience and still needing to take your first steps in a new field.
Lucía’s story began with a wish to create. Training and practice turned that wish into a profession. And TIMETORIOT helped her find a new team that needed her skills.
